If you are anything like me, you are curious. You are curious about life, and curious about your own true nature. Maybe, like me, that curiosity has led you to explore some of the many systems available for discovering who you are deep down, at the level some would call your soul.
Astrology, the Enneagram, the I Ching… there’s quite a list of systems to turn to!
The one I gravitated to, eventually, was numerology.
Why?
Because more than any other system out there, what I learned about myself from numerology stopped me in my tracks with its jaw-dropping accuracy. It almost felt a little creepy, it was so on-target.
And how was it on target?
Not in terms of predicting future events, because that’s not mainly what numerology does. It can get quite specific about good timing for certain actions or activities, but it will not tell you that this month you will meet the man or woman of your dreams.
Not even in terms of revealing characteristics of my personality and behavior, although numerology can do that quite well.
No, when I started exploring my numbers, numerology nailed me in terms of describing my true nature, including things like:
- what ideals and values are most important to me.
- the essence of what my life is about, and the different qualities (creativity, peacemaking, service, etc.) of which that essence is comprised.
- what I long for on the deepest level (i.e. spirituality, creativity, freedom, stability.)
- how all of those different qualities interact within me, showing me how they might complement each other or interfere with each other as I try to move forward in life.
- how I might be inclined to struggle with those different energies, until I learned to integrate them.
- what kinds of things I might potentially accomplish once I do integrate the different aspects of my essential nature.
- the organic cycles of timing in my life that I could work with to best be who I really am, and do what my true nature really wants to do in life.
Again, if you are anything like me, that’s the kind of stuff you most want insight about. And, as you gain that insight, you will realize that you have free will as to how you work with your true nature. Very little is pre-determined in regard to the actions you take in life.
But you may have made choices before you arrived on this earth (that’s for another blog post!) about the general kinds of experiences you will have, the kinds of people you will meet and the fields of endeavor you will be drawn to. A good interpretation of your numerology chart can help you understand those choices.
Here’s the best part.
As you begin to see all of those dynamics that are playing out in your life, and all the potential stored there, you gain distance on the day to day struggles and distractions that often prevent you from seeing the most inspired way forward, the way that is unique to you.
You begin to see your life as a whole, and you gain new perspective. You step outside the box of who you thought you were, and gain deep insight into who you really are.
With that level of insight comes a whole new level of freedom and choice about what can do with your life. I like to tell my clients that your life is your greatest work of art. You have the opportunity to consciously create what you want.
Now that is empowerment.
And often, with that empowerment comes a great sense of validation. Because you are seeing (perhaps for the first time) a snapshot of your true nature, you may see possibilities for yourself that you knew deep down were present, but that you had suppressed long ago. My clients often say things like “This makes so much sense! I always wanted to sing, but gave it up when I was told I’d never do it well!”
I love to see people start singing again.
